If you’re using Magento then you might got a notification about your PayPal’s IPN (Instant Payment Notification) that it will no longer allow you to use HTTP to post back the message to PayPal for verification.
And if you want to avoid service disruptions caused by the PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN) Changes, to comply with these changes, all merchants using PayPal must upgrade to Community Edition 18.104.22.168 or apply the SUPEE-8167 patch before 30th June, 2017.
After June 30, when used for IPN postbacks, www.paypal.com will only accept HTTPS connections.
PayPal is upgrading all external endpoints used by partners and merchants and to make programmatic connections. And they recommended that it must be reviewed if you are one of the following:
Web hosting company, eCommmerce service provider, Web programmer and system administrator
PayPal will only support external endpoints to the latest industry standards, such as
- HTTP 1.1 or newer, HTTPS only
- TLS 1.2 or newer only
- 2048-bit, SHA-256 certificates signed with VeriSign’s G5 root
